RTÉ’s Kathryn Thomas and the Operation Transformation team visited Grovelands Childcare in Tullamore recently to film how the staff, parents and children are taking on the challenge this year.

The footage will feature on the show on Thursday, January 22. The staff of Grovelands Childcare are taking part in this year’s Operation Transformation and are welcoming everyone to join them and take on the weight loss and fitness challenge.

Group walks will take place every Wednesday for staff, parents, families and friends, beginning at 6.15pm at Grovelands Childcare Tullamore and all are welcome to take part in the walks.

As part of the initiative children attending Grovelands Childcare will take part in three structured physical exercise activities each week and will put staff through their paces to ensure they stay on track! Healthy eating and the benefits of physical activity will be highlighted to the children during the eight weeks of the initiative.

Meabh O’ Kelly, Centre Manager Grovelands Childcare Tullamore said, “Our aim is to make this a really fun and sociable initiative where we improve our health and wellbeing while also enjoying ourselves! It’s also a great opportunity to lead by example for the children. Exercising as a group can really help people to stick to exercise plans so we would encourage everyone to come along and let us all support each other to kick-start ‘healthy bodies, healthy minds’ for 2015.”

The staff have officially registered as a group and will submit photographs and a weekly video showing highlights of activity to Operation Transformation. Staff will also take part in weekly weigh-ins and will compete against other Grovelands Childcare centres in Athlone and Mullingar – all in the spirit of healthy competition.

Grovelands Childcare staff attended ‘Healthy Ireland Smart Start’ training last month as part of the organisation’s commitment to promoting physical and emotional wellbeing among staff, children and their families. By taking part in Operation Transformation this year the organisation aims to further cement its commitment to promoting ‘healthy bodies, healthy minds’.
